I’m A Celebrity star George Shelley has shared his terrifying ordeal after a major artery in his throat was “cut in two” during surgery.

The Union J singer, 31, faced a tough time earlier this year, spending a week in the hospital while his bandmate Jaymi Hensley was mourning the tragic loss of his fiancé, Oliver Marmon.

Marmon, 33, died after falling from a third-floor hotel window in August at the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

Hensley, 34, who reached the semi-finals of The X Factor in 2012 alongside Shelley, JJ Hamblett, and Josh Cuthbert, had been in a relationship with hairstylist Marmon for over 14 years.

Amidst his pal’s grief, the X Factor star explained that he was hospitalised, sharing: “It’s been a really tough year to be honest. I had my tonsils out and my artery was cut in two and I was in hospital for a week.

“I lost a lot of blood and during that I was bereaved, my bandmate’s fiancé Olly, and dealing with grief again.”

Speaking to The Sun, he added of Hensley: “I’m so proud of him. He’s kept working. He’s creating happiness for himself by performing and that’s what Olly loved with Jaymi.

“He was a really great rock for me during my grief and I want to be that for him.”

The Union J star was devastated after his partner tragically fell to his death from a hotel window in Northampton, a month before their wedding.

In a statement to MailOnline, the singer paid tribute to Marmon and expressed gratitude to fans for their support during this difficult time.

It read: “Jaymi Hensley would like to thank all the love, messages and prayers sent to him over the loss of his beautiful fiancé Oliver Marmon.”

“At this time the family would like the media to respect the privacy of Jaymi and Oliver’s family while they mourn the loss of Oliver.”

An inquest into Marmon’s death was opened in September, and adjourned until March 12 by the assistant coroner for Northamptonshire, Hassan Shah.

He said the “provisional cause of death is head injuries, pending further tests”, and the body was released to his family.
