
George Wendt, beloved for his role as Norm Peterson in the hit NBC series “Cheers,” died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 17, at the age of 76. The actor, who received six Emmy nominations for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of the popular barfly character, made his final public appearances in 2024.
A death certificate obtained by TMZ has revealed that Wendt’s passing was due to cardiac arrest. The document also disclosed multiple underlying health conditions that contributed to his death, including congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, and hypertension. Additional contributing factors listed on the certificate were end-stage renal disease, also known as kidney failure, and hyperlipidemia.
