Husband of Labour MP Jo Cox says they spoke about remarrying before her tragic death

The widow of murdered Labour MP Jo Cox opened up to Lorraine Kelly as he prepares to remarry seven year's on from his wife's death.

Brendan Cox, 44, met domestic abuse campaigner Anna Ryder, 37, through a mutual friend two years ago and revealed on Tuesday how their respective families are "much looking forward to celebrating" when they tie the knot in the near future.

The dad-of-two was left devastated in June 2016, when his wife Jo was fatally shot and stabbed by a far right extremist as she attended her Batley and Spen constituency surgery in Birstall, West Yorkshire. White supremacist Thomas Mair was sentenced to life in prison for her murder later the same year.

Speaking on Lorraine this morning, Brendan explained how he and Jo's other loved ones host 'great get togethers' around the time of the late MP's birthday on June 22 every year.

As Lorraine and Brendan discussed how much they miss "Jo's voice" and empathy, the conversation turned to Brendan's upcoming wedding.

"There is light [after tragedy]," Lorraine began telling Brendan.

"I bet you didn't think there would be but then you met your Anna and you're getting married. Congratulations. It's what Jo would have wanted."

After thanking Lorraine for her well-wishes, Brendan went on to share: "Before Jo died a friend of ours sadly lost their husband and we spoke about what we would do if either of us died."

Smiling, he added: "I remember Jo saying she'd get married the next week."

"I always knew she would want [me to remarry] but I never thought it would happen because when you lose someone like Jo, you can't imagine [meeting someone that amazing again].

"I'm incredibly lucky."

Jo and Brendan married in 2009 and together they had two children; Cuillin and Lejla. Jo.

When asked about his children are handling their dad's new relationship, Brendan revealed his kids are "doing good" and hugely approve of his fiancée Anna.

Recalling to Lorraine how he told his offspring he planned to propose to Anna, Brendan revealed his children told him: "You're never going to do better than Anna!"
