Council chiefs have been challenged to turn the side of Ayr's Odeon cinema into a giant mural.
Town MSP, Siobhian Brown, has secured permission from the movie giant for their building to be used as a striking piece of artwork.
The large grey wall on the side of the picture house has been visible since the demolition of the council's Burns House offices.
Funding worth £70,000, provided by the Scottish Government, was used to landscape the area left behind.
Now Ms Brown wants the council to take inspiration from the work and create a colourful mural at the top of the town.
It follows a similar move by East Ayrshire Council, who recently completed a mural of the Countess of Kilmarnock, Lady Anne Livingston Boyd, on St Marnock Square.
Ms Brown said: “I am extremely keen to try and improve the image of Ayr town centre, particularly the external wall of the Odeon, which can now be seen due to the demolition of the old Burns House.
“After contacting the Odeon, I am grateful to the cinema for their permission for a mural to go ahead and I hope the council take this opportunity to work together with the Odeon to transform this gateway into Ayr Town.
“It would be great if South Ayrshire Council could look at ways to fund this. We could open it up to local artists and ask the community and school children for ideas.
“We could also have a design competition.
“Ayr is steeped in history and culture and the wall could become a real feature of the town, whether it be Rabbie Burns or something more modern that adorns it.
“A prime example of this is displayed in Kilmarnock where a mural of Lady Anne Livingston Boyd has been painted.
“It is a piece of local history and it certainly improves the look of building, as well as being extremely popular with locals.
“I have written to the leader of South Ayrshire Council, Cllr Martin Dowey, asking him to take this project forward.”
A council spokesperson said: "The £70,000 referred to by Siobhian Brown MSP was an award made through the Councils Place Based Investment Fund allocation last year and the project has concluded.
"If funding was to be identified by the Scottish Government for this mural, statutory consents would require to be secured in advance."
