Hogwarts Legacy is full of collectibles and hidden treasures. Scattered throughout the school and the wider wizarding world are countless treasure chests, but some are easier to open than others.
While exploring Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, players are likely to come across mysterious chests adorned with watchful eyeballs. But players cannot simply walk up these chests and open them like any other, because when players approach, the eyeball gets startled and the chest locks.
Most chests include pieces of gear, or small amounts of money, but each one of these Eye Chests contain 500 gold galleons, making them crucial to purchasing or upgrading items. But how exactly do you open the Eye Chests?

How to open the Eye Chests in Hogwarts Legacy
To open the Eye Chests in Hogwarts Legacy, players must first learn to cast a particular spell to avoid being seen by the eyes. This means players are going to need stealth, and there is no better spell than the Disillusionment charm, which renders the user invisible.

This spell is acquired fairly early on in the game’s main story, during the Secrets of the Restricted Section quest. Slytherin student Sebastian Sallow teaches you the Disillusionment charm at the start of the quest so you can use it to sneak past prefects, librarians, and ghosts.
Once you have completed this quest and have the Disillusionment charm in your arsenal of spells, you are now free to explore and open the Eye Chests. To do this, simply remain out of sight of the eyes and make yourself invisible with the Disillusionment charm.
You can now approach the chest and interact with it to open it like you would a regular chest, allowing you to get your hands on the 500 galleons hidden inside. There is one Eye Chest in the Restricted Section quest, but don’t worry if you miss it first time round, as you can go back and get it later as you explore the castle.
