Hogwarts Legacy is finally here, and it is full of challenges, collectibles, and hidden areas. Exploring Hogwarts and the huge map of the wider Wizarding World presents players with a seemingly endless number of puzzles to keep them busy.
One such puzzle sits in the heart of Hogwarts, on a connecting bridge between the school’s Great Hall and the Library Annex. Solving this puzzle unlocks a secret area and presents players with a big reward.
Before solving this puzzle, players must have first learned the fire spell, Incendio. This is done by finishing quests during the game’s main story.

Incendio is learned early in the game after the first visit to Hogsmeade. After heading to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, the professor will give you two tasks.
Players must speak to Lucan Brattleby in the Clock Tower and win two rounds of Crossed Wands duels, followed by completing a round of spell combination practice. You can then return to the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor to learn Incendio.
Once you can cast this fire spell, you are able to solve the brazier puzzle on the bridge. When crossing the bridge between the Great Hall and Library Annex, players may notice a golden circular grate on the floor with a set of four symbols and Roman numerals.

Each of these symbols corresponds to one of four braziers located at different points on the bridge. These braziers – two at each end of the bridge – each sit above a different symbol that matches those found on the grate.
By interacting with the braziers, they can be rotated so they display a different Roman numeral from I-IV. Players must light all four braziers using the Incendio spell and then rotate them so the Roman numeral underneath matches the Roman numeral beneath the symbol on the grate.
This can be done in any order, so long as the Roman numeral on each lit brazier matches the symbols on the grate. Once all four braziers are lit and the Roman numerals match the symbols on the grate, players will see a short cutscene as the grate unlocks to reveal a ladder that leads to a viaduct underneath.
There are two chests in this area, with the first visible almost immediately after climbing down the ladder. The second, larger chest sits at the far end of the viaduct, and contains a random piece of Legendary gear which can be identified once players have unlocked the Desk of Description in the Room of Requirement.
