The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations has come to an end following a month of pure drama and entertainment.
Last week saw Senegal beat Burkina Faso 3-1 in the first semi-final, while Egypt defeated Cameroon on penalties after a 0-0 draw in extra time in the second semi-final.
That meant that Sadio Mane ’s Senegal would take on Mohamed Salah ’s Egypt in the final in Yaoundé, for the chance to win African football’s most prestigious prize.
And after losing the 2019 final, it was Senegal who came out victorious following a 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory over Egypt to win their first ever Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

Arsenal
Mohamed Elneny played the full 90 minutes and extra time as Egypt drew 0-0 with Senegal in Sunday’s final, before losing 4-2 on penalties.
Aston Villa
Trezeguet featured as a 58th minute substitute for Egypt in their final defeat to Senegal on Sunday, in which they lost 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 extra time draw.
Bertrand Traore captained Burkina Faso and played 87 minutes of their 3-3 draw with Cameroon on Saturday, before they lost 5-3 on penalties, as they finished 4th at AFCON 2021. He also grabbed an assist for his side’s third goal.
Chelsea
Edouard Mendy kept a clean sheet in Senegal’s 0-0 draw with Egypt after extra time, before saving the opposition's fourth penalty to allow Sadio Mane to win it for his country.
Crystal Palace
Cheikhou Kouyate managed 66 minutes of Senegal’s 0-0 draw with Egypt on Sunday, before the Lions of Terranga clinched the tie on penalties.
Leicester City
Nampalys Mendy played the full 90 minutes plus extra time on Sunday, whilst picking up a 17th minute booking, as he helped his side to their first ever AFCON triumph.
Liverpool
Mohamed Salah played the full 90 minutes and extra time of Egypt’s 0-0 draw with Senegal but didn’t even take a spot kick as his side lost 4-2 on penalties to finish at runners-up on Sunday.
Sadio Mane was the hero for Senegal as he scored the decisive spot kick in their 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory over Egypt on Sunday to help his country lift their first ever AFCON title, despite missing a 7th minute penalty during the game and picking up an 88th minute booking.
Watford
Ismaila Sarr started for Senegal in their 0-0 draw with Egypt in Sunday’s final, before coming off as a 77th minute substitute ahead of extra time and penalties, in which his nation won 4-2.
