House Speaker Mike Johnson expresses concern over immigration and Ukraine funding

President Biden summoned leaders from both parties to break immigration and Ukraine aid stalemate.

President Biden convened a meeting at the White House in an effort to address the immigration crisis and provide aid to Ukraine. However, the chances of reaching a resolution seem uncertain at this time. The Speaker expressed openness to alternate proposals as long as they effectively tackle the border crisis. He emphasized that existing federal laws, if properly enforced, could handle the situation. Johnson stressed the fact that the problem extends beyond politics and must be resolved for the safety, security, and sovereignty of the United States.

On the issue of Ukraine funding, Johnson expressed understanding of the threat posed by Russian aggression and the importance of assistance. However, he underscored the need for a clear strategy and accountability for the taxpayers' dollars spent. Johnson mentioned that the White House has not provided satisfactory answers on these matters.

When asked about possible threats to his position as Speaker of the House, Johnson acknowledged the concerns raised by some members of his party regarding oversight and lack of a plan. He reiterated his commitment to transparent and effective governance.

Regarding the likelihood of a government shutdown, Johnson expressed his intention to avoid such a scenario. He highlighted the efforts
