Hockey Pro League: India ready to start afresh after World Cup debacle

ROURKELA: The last time the Indian men’s hockey team played at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium here, it was their final classification match of the World Cup where they beat South Africa to finish a disappointing ninth.

It wasn’t the end that the team or the fans were hoping for after their fiery start to the tournament – a 2-0 win against Spain. But, little more than a month after the World Cup, the team — coached by David John, S Kariappa and Shivendra Singh — is back here once again to take part in a mini tournament of FIH Pro League against Australia and Germany from March 10-15, with their first match against the world champion Germans on Friday.
