Hill to Harbour organisers hope to turn the event into the "City2Surf of Newcastle" after a hugely successful event on Sunday. Pictures by Marina Neil

After rain and thunderstorms on Saturday night, organisers thought Sunday's event would be a "disaster" but the weather held off and it was a perfect day in Newcastle.

Event organisers said there were 1300 entrants on Sunday and hope to grow that number to 5000 in the next few years. Picture by Marina Neil
