'Hidden note' dating back to 1960s discovered under wallpaper at Scots home

A hidden note dating back to the 1960s has been discovered under years of wallpaper at a Scots home.

Judy Newton, from Dunbar in East Lothian, stumbled upon the message while in the process of redecorating her property, reports Edinburgh Live.

She posted an image on social media of the note, which read: “Papered by AS Laing, June 1968.”

Locals quickly began discussing who may have written the note 55 years ago and Judy wondered if there were any relatives of AS Laing in the area.

Whhile no direct family have yet come forward, the identity of the man seems to have been confirmed.

It’s thought that it was written by a local painter and plasterer, named Alistair Lang. The business still exists, now operating as George A Laing Renovations and Extensions.

The Dunbar-based family business has been trading for over 60 years - but whether or not they continue to leave messages under their wallpaper is yet to be determined.

The Daily Record has approached George A Laing Renovations and Extensions for comment.
