Helicopter and lifeboat called out to search for fishing boat missing for six hours off Northumberland coast

A coastguard helicopter and the Seahouses RNLI lifeboat were called out on Monday afternoon after a fishing boat was reported missing.

The vessel had lost contact for six hours, with its last known position in the North Sea, 45 miles east of Seahouses. The loss of contact raised the Coastguard's concern for its safety, and a helicopter was scrambled from its base in Prestwick, Scotland, to assist with the search.

Alongside the helicopter, Seahouses RNLI's Shannon Class Lifeboat was called out and headed towards the last known position of the fishing vessel. Thankfully, the rescue helicopter was able to find the vessel and confirmed that all was well, and the Seahouses Lifeboat returned to land.
