Helen Skelton missing from Countryfile again as fans accuse BBC of pushing 'agenda'

Helen Skelton is still missing from Countryfile for the fourth week running since her split with Leeds Rhinos rugby ace Richie Myler.

Helen, 38, had revealed her husband Richie Myler had 'left the family home' four weeks ago - it has since been revealed that Richie, 31, has started a new romance with the daughter of the club's president, Stephanie Thirkill.

The pair's split came just four-months after the pair welcomed their third child, Elsie Kate. They are also parents to sons, Ernie, six, and Louis, four.

There was still no mention made of Helen in tonight's show as well as no explanation as to where she was. And although presenters on BBC1's Countryfile do chop and change every week, the host hasn't been seen on the programme since before her public marriage breakdown.

Elsewhere on the episode, host Tom Heap got people riled up with a section on genetically modified (GM) foods.

He visited a GM research lab which talked about the different ways food could be modified in a lab at a genetic level in order to tackle various problems. Solutions included adding scorpion venom to cabbages to deter caterpillars.

Viewers were told: ""We've got so many challenges now across the planet. GM could be part of that solution. I think Gm is going to be a step change in how we get more Omega 3 in our diets, in how we make fisheries more sustainable. I think GM has to be part of that solution."

But another farmer wasn't so sure, adding: "It's just going to make someone a lot of money. I just think it's totally wrong."

But then Tom Heap added that gene editing is 'no doubt a powerful tool' and 'maybe science could provide some help'.

He then asked 'with such a powerful tool, is it time to loosen regulations?'.

And it seems a lot of people were very unhappy with the concept and even accused the BBC programme of 'pushing' GM.

@MikeEcoPR said: "So to summarise: we’ve buggered the climate, so we need to bugger around with food genes in response?"

@yogicka12 said: "Say no to gene editing. Sounds like anti nature to me and just lines pockets of certain individuals."

@embeck2015 said: "Why would anyone want to eat genetically modified crops without knowing what it could do to you - cabbage modified with scorpion venom to kill caterpillars - yet they're calling it 'natural'?

Tom Heap talked about GM foods on a visit to a lab (BBC1)

"Why are #Covid #antivaxxers not complaining about GM foods, the mantra about not having an alien substance put in their bodies yet they probably accept food with all sorts added without complaining! Fish oil added so you get Omega3, etc etc etc #countryfile"

@tealnmercia said: "I've zoned out of Tom's latest doom piece. I'm sure it's important mind you #countryfile"

@erasmo2058 said: "Today GM food tomorrow Day of the Triffids. We’re doomed I tell you."

@NFGMart said: "I guess someone at #countryfile has shares in GM company then. Talk about pushing an agenda.

"Genetically modifying leaves to have scorpion venom. What could possibly go wrong..#countryfile"

@drummergirl1971 said: "I’m not that keen on cabbage anyway, but cabbage with scorpion venom in their leaves #Countryfile"

@explodingwalrus said: "And here's the Doomlord to really depress you #countryfile"

@chrisb99_uk said: "Doomlord time! #countryfile"

@markbinnersley said: "Yes #Countryfile - good to see a farmer describing gene editing as a false path. It's about corporate profit, not food security. When will we learn?"
