This is the heartwarming moment a Scots Star Wars-obsessed schoolboy gets a surprise video message from his hero, Ewan McGregor.
Callum Martin couldn't believe his eyes when the Scottish screen star, who famously portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi, popped up on a screen in front of him while he was appearing on this year's STV Children's Appeal telefundraiser.
The nine-year-old, who was diagnosed with autism and ADHD at the age of five, joins host Lorraine Kelly on the annual show when it airs tonight (Friday) to discuss the work being done by Lossiemouth-based charity Outfit Moray, which is supported by the appeal.
But little does Callum know that Lorraine has an out-of-this-world surprise up her sleeve.
Addressing Callum directly, Ewan says in a preview clip: “I just wanted to say I’ve heard so much about you, and how brilliantly you’re doing with your activities at Outfit Moray. I just wanted to say I think you’re brilliant, keep up the good work, and may the force be with you.”
Without a moment of hesitation, Callum adorably replies: “May the force be with you too!”
This year’s STV Children’s Appeal show will be broadcast from indoor football centre Street Soccer in Dundee.
The fundraiser will feature an exclusive performance from Edinburgh hitmaker Nina Nesbitt , appearances from a host of celebrities including actor Martin Compston, and the stories of kind-hearted Scots across the country whose efforts have raised thousands for children affected by poverty.
Discussing this year’s STV Children’s Appeal show, which she hosts alongside Still Game’s Sanjeev Kohli, Lorraine Kelly said: “I had the best time hosting the show alongside Sanjeev in Dundee, a city that is close to my heart; you can expect to feel inspired, learn more about some wonderful charities and watch some heartwarming exchanges. You may even witness some top-class football skills on full display…
"Sanjeev and I loved learning about all the fantastic fundraising and meeting so many special folk on the show. Remember, viewers can donate all day on the 4th of November, so you can still help us make a difference. Tune in for all the action!”
The STV Children’s Appeal 2022 airs on STV and STV Player at 9pm tonight (Friday, November 4).
