Harvey Weinstein has been hospitalised following 'alarming blood test result'

Harvey Weinstein has been hospitalised over an "alarming blood test result".

The 72-year-old disgraced movie mogul - who is currently serving a 16-year sentence after being convicted on rape and sexual assault charges in Los Angeles in 2022 and awaiting a retrial after his 2020 convictions in New York for first-degree criminal sexual assault and third-degree rape were overturned in April - was rushed Bellevue Hospital for "emergent treatment" on Monday (02.12.24) afternoon.

His attorney Imran H. Ansari of Aidala Bertuna and Kamins PC, told People: "Harvey Weinstein, who has been suffering from a lack of adequate medical care and enduring deplorable and inhumane conditions on Rikers Island, has been transported to Bellevue Hospital for emergent treatment due to an alarming blood test result that requires immediate medical attention.

"It is expected that he will remain there until his condition stabilizes. His deprivation of care is not only medical malpractice, but a violation of his constitutional rights."

Meanwhile, Weinstein's spokesperson Juda Engelmayer claimed in a separate statement that the producer was facing "cruel and unusual punishment" amid his bout of illnesses.

Engelmayer said: "Mr. Weinstein, who is suffering from a number of illnesses, including leukemia, has been deprived the medical attention that someone in his medical state deserves, prisoner or not.

"In many ways, this mistreatment constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.”."

Weinstein was recently diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia and has been receiving treatment at Rikers Island.

He also suffers from other issues including diabetes, coronary artery disease and problems with his thyroid.

He has also battled COVID-19 and contracted double pneumonia in his lungs, with Weinstein also spending time at Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward to receive treatment for his various health complaints.
