Harry Kane injury: Bayern Munich reveal latest ahead of Champions League clash with Aston Villa

Harry Kane will continue to receive intensive treatment on an ankle injury ahead Bayern Munich’s trip to Aston Villa.

Kane was forced off in the final stages of Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

And the 31-year-old will be assessed for Bayern’s Champions League clash with Villa on Wednesday.

“Harry Kane suffered a painful blow to his ankle in Saturday's top Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen,” a club statement read. “Examinations by FC Bayern's medical department on Sunday showed a positive development. Kane will continue to receive intensive treatment.”

Kane claimed he expected to be able to play in the match at Villa Park straight after the Leverkusen game, saying: “It was painful, but it's not too bad.

“We'll investigate it further tomorrow, but I expect that I'll be able to play against Aston Villa."

Bayern director of sport Max Eberl admitted his concern for Kane, telling Sky Germany: "If Harry goes off the pitch, something really happened.

"It doesn't look good."

But Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was more optimistic, telling AZ: “He picked up a knock. But as the doctors said, it's probably nothing serious. We'll have to see tomorrow.”

Kane has been in good form for Bayern so far this season, scoring 10 goals in just seven appearances across all competitions.

Last season he won the Bundesliga golden boot with 36 strikes following his £100million move from Tottenham, but failed to help Bayern win the league title.
