A number of Manchester United fans may say Hannibal Mejbri had an underwhelming pre-season under Erik ten Hag.
The academy starlet played just 77 minutes over three games in the summer, having not hit the heights many expected him to after explosive cameos at the end of last season. Instead, it was Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage who stole the starlet spotlight.
His place within Erik ten Hag’s plans this season is unclear, with onlookers doubtful he has done enough to stake a claim for a spot in the matchday squad. However, the 16-time capped Tunisia international made a case for his inclusion this week.

Speaking to French media about his senior side ambitions, he outlined: "I said to myself, 'oh yeah, I need to work hard!' I didn't come here for nothing, not to have on my CV 'I played for United'.
"I came to prove to the world that a young person from Paris, from the neighbourhood, can come and impose himself. And me... I’m ready to risk everything to succeed at United.”
This will be pleasing for Ten Hag to hear. Hannibal’s mentality marries up nicely with what the United manager told the media last month about what he expects from his players.
“I look to the player and I have a certain demand. And I will tell them if they have capabilities, but you have to invest,” he said.
“It is for every player. I will tell every player what I expect of them. I have high standards because you are here, you are playing for Manchester United, then you must bring every day on the pitch. That is an expectation I have."
Those within the game frequently reiterate the adage that talent means nothing unless you have the attitude to match. And Hannibal has left Ten Hag in no doubt that he has just that.
