Hamilton announce striker departure as star chases 'opportunities elsewhere'

David Moyo has brought an end to his spell at Hamilton.

The striker was under contract for the 2022/23 Championship season but leaves after coming to an agreement with Accies for his release.

An international for Zimbabwe, the former Northampton Town forward netted memorable goals in his time at New Douglas Park, including a derby winner against Motherwell and goal during a 1-0 win over Rangers in 2020.

Last season he netted nine times with four assists as Hamilton finished sixth in the second tier after 2021 relegation from the Premiership.

A statement reads: "The club have reached an agreement with David Moyo to release him from his contract in order to allow him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

"He scored 14 goals from 93 appearances, famously netting winners against Motherwell and Rangers ensuring his popularity amongst our supporters.

"During his spell here he was also capped four times by Zimbabwe, and is heading off this week to join up with the squad for their games v Liberia and South Africa next week.

"David departs with our thanks for his time here, and our best wishes for the future."

Uncertainty surrounds the South Lanarkshire side, with head coach Stuart Taylor's exit from the club still to be signed off.
