Dashcam footage captured the moment a reckless driver almost caused a head-on crash while dangerously overtaking a motor in Fife.
The video, taken by a van driver, shows a clear road ahead and a blue hatchback approaching on the other side of the road.
Suddenly, a black Ford Focus dangerously overtakes the van at speed and narrowly misses the oncoming blue car by inches.
The driver of the van, who captured the hair-raising moment, loudly sounded his horn before being heard to shout "What the f*** was that?!" as the black car speeds off into the distance.
The motorist who captured the near-collision said he was driving at 51mph, which is the speed limit for a van on the A911, near to Glenrothes and the Coaltown of Balgonie when they noticed the car behind approaching at speed on Sunday evening.
He branded the motorist, understood to be a woman, an "idiot" for the "crazy" manoeuvre, which he claims could have caused a multi-vehicle pile-up.
He said: "This was a very close near miss. Crazy driving. Her brakes are on, the car in front of her brakes too, as do I - and the car behind nearly hit me.
"I was doing 51 mph, which is the speed limit for a van on this road. They almost wiped out four motors with their impatience. Never mind the lives in the motors. Thank God the rest of us were paying attention to this idiot."
Many reached out to the driver who shared the frightening incident. One person posted: "That could have been so many lives lost, for what? Is reaching the end of the road a minute or two quicker really worth it? I’d rather turn my radio up and chill to the tunes… Please choose to stay alive first."
Another said: "That is ridiculous not only risking their own life but others as well." A third added: "I found it scary to watch this. Imagine the people in the other car."
