Guangzhou Spares Home-Bound From Mass Covid Testing

What’s new: Seven of Guangzhou’s 11 districts have eased Covid-19 testing, sparing people with no need to leave their homes from the requirement, as the capital of South China’s Guangdong province attempts to reduce crowd infection risk and save resources.

The group includes home-bound seniors, students taking classes online, and people working from home, according to announcements published on Yuexiu and Liwan districts’ official WeChat accounts Sunday night and Monday morning, respectively.

Parents of school-aged children in Guangzhou received notices that all but the four districts worst-hit by virus outbreaks would carry out the same policy, guiding the public to be tested on demand.

What’s more: Guangzhou’s districts have carried out multiple rounds of mass testing since the latest surge in Covid cases began in October. K-12 teachers and students were required to take daily tests.

The manufacturing hub has recorded more than 136,000 confirmed and asymptomatic cases since Oct. 22, with more than 7,000 total cases reported on Sunday, according to municipal health commission data.
