Greggs has confirmed it will not be selling its much loved hot cross buns this Easter.
The popular bakery chain, which boasts a number of sites in Liverpool, is well known for its seasonal treats, with its hot cross buns a firm favourite among customers.
Yesterday marked the first day of Lent, with the countdown to Easter officially underway. This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 17.

Hot cross buns, traditionally eaten on Good Friday, are usually made with fruit and marked with a cross on the top. Greggs' hot cross buns are incredibly popular, with the bakery even launching vegan versions of the sweet treat in recent years.
But, this Easter, the festive snack will be notably absent from Greggs' menu. The high street bakery will be launching a string of other Easter themed products soon.
A Greggs spokesperson said: "Our hot cross buns are taking a well deserved rest from our Easter menu this year but keep an eye out for our other exciting Easter products which will be in shops soon."
Greggs boasts more than 2,000 stores across the UK, with several in Liverpool.
The bakery chain was founded more than 80 years ago by John Gregg in Newcastle.
