"We ask that music is on a low volume so that you are aware of things happening around you and please pay attention to instructions from marshals on the day," Great Run says.

There will also be music playing on the day through loudspeakers. Heart FM will DJ at the start line and a mile from the end to motivate runners. On course music zones will also be playing music at miles 2 and 6, between miles 9 and 10 and shortly towards the finish after mile 13.

The Apres Run zone after the finishing line will host DJs and live music too.

Great Run says listening to music could make you run faster.

"Numerous studies have shown that, in controlled experiments, participants listening to music were able to out-run those who ran in silence," it says.
