Government tracks fertiliser diversion through e-way bills as supply fears rise

The government has used e-way bill data to detect possible diversion of subsidised fertiliser, with a preliminary analysis during the recent supply concerns showing trucks making route deviations and additional trips instead of reaching their designated destinations, The Times of India reported on Wednesday.

The Finance Ministry carried out the analysis after the Iran war raised concerns over fertiliser availability, hoarding and diversion, and subsequently alerted the fertiliser department, according to the report.
