Three novice hikers relied heavily on Google's Gemini to plan their attempt to summit Mount Shasta. The trip ended with a nighttime descent, an injured knee, and a mountain rescue.

The three men, all from Roseville, California, had used Gemini for information about the Clear Creek Route and what to pack for their attempt to reach Mount Shasta's 14,179-foot summit. The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office later described their reliance on the AI as a 'critical misstep'.
