Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid tells Terry Christian to 'stop talking' as he kicks off about MPs' extra jobs

Good Morning Britain's Susannah Reid asked panelist, broadcaster Terry Christian, to 'stop talking' after he refused to let co-host Richard Madeley finish asking a number of questions on the subject of MPs having second jobs during Monday morning's show (which aired on March 27).

The ITV morning show was holding a discussion over whether politicians should offer their services for a fee, following the revelation that former cabinet ministers Kwasi Kwarteng and Matt Hancock had been exposed as quoting a daily rate for services such as consulting, for "quite a sum" - £10,000 - to advertise a fake foreign firm and Terry Christian former Conservative MP Jerry Hayes were appearing to discuss the subject.

But soon after they turned to Terry for his strong opinions on whether this should be allowed, considering they already have a rather steep salary as an MP, things started to get a little heated as he deemed one of Richard Madeley's questions to be "leading".

Asking whether politicans who also work in healthcare should give up their shifts as hospital nurses and doctors, such as Maria Corfield or Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, Terry explained that if these politicians are doing a 'social good', then having a second job is acceptable. But when Richard posed a second question of: "What if Corfield or Allin-Khan, the nurse and the doctor respectively were offered a consulting...", things started to go awry.

"Well, I don't..." interrupted Terry, before Richard said: "Hang on, let me finish the question.."

"Yeah, but it's a bit anecdotal," Terry said, slyly. "Let's go on the subject."

"Terry, let me ask the question," Richard firmly said.

Susannah was forced to step in and clarified that the subject is "second jobs and that's what Richard is asking you about."

Terry responded, rather fiery, "Yeah, well let's talk about second jobs, it smells of corruption. I'm just putting my foot..."

"Mate, mate, let me ask the questions and you give the answers, alright? You can give the longest answer you want but please let me ask the question" Richard told Terry after constantly being interrupted. "What would you say if those two, a nurse and a doctor respectively, were to be offered a consultancy, which was directly to do with matters of health?"

Changing his tune, the 62-year-old concluded: "If it's to do with health, the social good, that's fine. It's a leading question. The big subject is, I think MPs should definitely get more money, maybe should be paid £200 grand a year, no second jobs. No taking money off private health companies and then voting to do away with the NHS, no being landlords and then voting against minimum standards for landlords. It's corruption to me. Or it smells of corruption.

"Appearing on TV, that's fine if you go on Have I Got News For You, but not if you're going on some toxic television channel spouting poison, as some of them do."

The panel went on to discuss the fact that this exposé was simply a video clip of the politicians being interviewed for what they'd offer - they hadn't done anything wrong as such, before Terry explained how he would not have allowed his fellow panelist, Jerry Hayes, who is a barrister, to practice law while serving in parliament. "I'd cut out of the corruption," he said.

Later on in the interview, Susanna Reid was forced to step in once again as she told Terry to "stop talking" after she wanted him to reconfirm his statement of MPs being paid a whopping £200,000 a year and not being allowed a second job.

"Second jobs should be banned and I also want to know, what panels they sit..." he said while Susanna attempted to say: "If the pay... seriously do you think... if they... alright, Terry. If.... there was a proposal.... Terry, stop talking for a minute..."

Having enough, she turned to the camera and advised how they'd asked viewers on Twitter whether they thought it was time to ban MPs from having second jobs - 92% said yes - but first quipped that the question they'd posed was "Whether it was time to ban Terry Christian".
