GMC council approves ₹1,186 crore budget for 2022-23

The Guntur Municipal Corporation council approved the budget estimates for the year 2022-2023 pegged at ₹1,186.79 crore.

In the meeting on Monday, chaired by Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu, the GMC general body discussed various development proposals and approved the budget estimates.

The Mayor said this was the first time in 11 years that the annual budget was presented in complete form. The revised estimates for the year 2021-22 were ₹708.87 crore and the financial year begins with a balance of ₹708.87 crore and a revenue of ₹477.92 crore.

“We have taken into consideration several proposals from MLAs, MLCs and corporators and prepared a comprehensive budget keeping in view the future needs of the corporation. Following the vision of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, priority is being given to drinking water, sanitation, and a clean environment,’’ said Mr. Naidu.

MLC Lella Appireddy said that the budget reflects the vision of the elected body and appreciated the efforts of Municipal Commissioner Nishant Kumar.

Mr. Nishant Kumar said that several suggestions of the elected representatives have been incorporated in the budget and the proposals would be sent to the State government.

In the monsoon action plan, a special drive would be held to clear the clogged drains. The budget has proposals to develop several new roads, construct the PVK Naidu market, drains and culverts and develop parks.

MLAs Maddali Giridhar, Md. Mustafa, Deputy Mayor V. Bala Vajra Babu, Sk. Sajila and Additional Commissioner Niranjan Reddy were present.
