GMB viewers slam Laura Tobin's April Fool's Day prank on Kate Garraway as 'worst ever'

Good Morning Britain viewers were unimpressed during Friday's instalment of the morning ITV show as presenter Laura Tobin attempted to pull off an April Fool’s Day prank.

With hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway in the ITV studio helm, weather presenter Laura broadcasted her segment of the show from a greenhouse.

The 40-year-old meteorologist was shown a “unique plant” by greenhouse worker Matt, who told her the new plant was the first of its kind, as he spoke of his hopes the plant will go on sale to the public.

Laura asked: “So people will be able to buy this plant in a few years' time?”, to which Matt replied: “They will in a couple of years' time once we have bred from this one. Take a closer look because the undersides of these petals are absolutely…”

Laura’s green-fingered host even went on to promise they would name it after Laura herself, but when he handed her the plant mid-sentence she dropped it to the floor.

Both Matt and Laura screamed at the apparent blunder, before guest Matt tutted and stormed off.

Laura said: “Matt, we can save this right? Oh my God, he's just gone. Is there really only one of these?” as she attempted to scrape the remnants of the plant from off the floor.

While co-hosts Ben and Kate tried to join in on the joke in the studio, ITV viewers at home smelled a rat and were less than impressed with the dupe.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “Poor effort at an April Fool there GMB,” as another added: “Worst April fools ever surely people aren’t falling for this no Oscar’s here.”

A third weighed in writing: “Pathetic attempt at April fools there,” as another chimed: “That was the WORST April fools joke.”

“Aw jeez the April Fools Day hapes with Laura are always so overblown and obvious. Good grief!,” another social media user posted.

Elsewhere on the programme, Kate was left disappointed as her Good Morning Britain colleagues pulled an April Fools' joke on her.

During the entertainment segment with Vick Hope, the panel were busy discussing the premiere of The Lost City last night in London, starring Channing Tatum amongst others.

Discussions on Good Morning Britain soon turned to a specific scene with Magic Mike star Channing Tatum and Magic Mike, his film about male strippers.

Vick then teased there was a surprise guest coming into the studio - none other than Channing Tatum.

Kate was shocked and she quickly sorted out her hair and got ready to welcome Channing onto the show - but it all turned out to be an elaborate joke by the whole team, leaving Kate gutted.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
