When it comes to the humble chippy, Glasgow is home to so many great options meaning you should be guaranteed to find some of the best fish and chips around.
With it being National Fish and Chips Day (Friday, June 2), you even have a decent excuse to try out a weekend treat.
And while we can't all make it to the seaside in the sunshine, we can enjoy the next best thing, a chippy tea at home.
With that in mind, Glasgow Live has picked out those spots that our readers love, have won awards or are just downright brilliant.

Where are some of the best fish and chips in Glasgow?
Coronation Restaurant, Gallowgate
This popular family-run chippy in the Gallowgate was by far the most voted for, when we asked for our reader's favourite chippies, with people flocking to praise it.
One person wrote: "Always the best fish and chips with the best service from staff. A must-go every time I'm in Glasgow."
We even went along to try it out and were pretty impressed, you can read the review here.
Hooked, south side
In the southside, you'll find some cracking chippies such as Salt and Vinegar in Shawlands and the aptly named Best Chippy Hampden in Mount Florida.
But when it comes to elevating the chippy game, then Hooked on Cathcart Road really stands out, you can get all the classics here but also upgrade them, swapping out traditional batter for panko bread crumb, haddock for cod, and even the OG potato chippy chips for sweet potato fries.
Old Salty's, Byres Road
A Glasgow Live favourite we reviewed this Byres Road sit in option a while back, and we’re still hankering for a huge wedge of fish and a side of mushy peas.
This is a regular award-winner and always appears on 'best chippy' lists so it was a natural pick for our list.
Choose from Haddock, Cod and Hake, enjoy the twice-cooked chips and of course, there are always those famous Macaroni pies if you want something different.
Catch, Southside/West end
This place has almost as many awards as it has options on its menu, with the restaurant in the west end recently being named among the best in the UK by FRY Magazine's annual awards.
Another that takes the chippy to the next level, and alongside the classics, gets extra points for its extensive vegan and street food options.
And don't worry the portions are absolutely massive too.
Merchant Chippie, Merchant City
Recently named as one of Scotland's best chippies at this year's Scottish Italian Awards, this Merchant City institution is a favourite of uni students, revellers and foodies alike.
The corner chip shop serves up huge portions of seafood and crispy battered fish - it’s old school, but if you’re hankering for posh calamari then you’re covered too.
McMonagles, Clydebank
Possibly the most unique options on this list (and slightly further out), McMonagles Boat is housed on well, a boat-shaped restaurant and even boasts a unique sail thru takeaway window for the canal.
A restaurant and tourist attraction, it has both formal dinning upstairs and casual seating outside and offers some incredible options such as the trickle (a deep-fried pickled onion) and even a deep-fried roll and chips – which is truly epic.
And the legendary chippy landed the title of Scotland's Restaurant Takeaway of the Year last year.
University Cafe, Byres Road
A true Glasgow institution, this place is even certified by iconic late, great food and drink writer Anthony Bourdain.
He loved it, we love it, and we are sure you will too.
Bonus pick
Fish Works, Largs
Ok, so this one is by the seaside, meaning it is a bit further out (about 55 minutes drive to be exact) but, it's so good that it recently won a top UK-wide award, naming it as having the 'Best Quality Fish and Chips' in the UK.
The National Federation of Fish Friers picked out the seaside favourite in Largs as the winner for the Quality Accreditation category at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2023. So you know that it must be good.
