Girl ,11, rushed to hospital in air ambulance after being hit by car

An 11-year-old girl was rushed to hospital by air ambulance after being hit by a car.

Emergency services rushed to Carr Lane in Birkdale at around 4.20pm on Thursday, April 21, following reports of a child being hit by a car. Once Merseyside Police arrived at the scene they found an 11-year-old girl had suffered serious injuries after being hit by a blue Honda Civic.

The North West Ambulance Service and an air ambulance were also called to the scene and the girl was taken to the hospital.

The driver of a blue Honda Civic has stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. Road closures are in place while emergency services attend the incident.

Merseyside Police said: "We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident."

Police are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage that may assist the investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 691 of 21 April.
