Giovanni van Bronckhorst picks positives out of Rangers win over Queen of the South

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST reckons there were plenty of positives to pick out as Rangers progressed to the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals.

The Dutchman saw his side run out comfortable 3-1 winners over Queen of the South on Tuesday evening as Robbie Ure scored on his debut and Scott Arfield netted twice.

Van Bronckhorst was able to give the likes of Ridvan Yilmaz and Rabbi Matondo important match minutes as well as utilise a handful of academy prospects at Ibrox.

And it was to prove a pleasing night all round for Rangers as the Doonhamers - who levelled through Lee Connelly in the first half - were dispatched with relative ease.

Van Bronckhorst said: "Of course we changed a lot of players and I think it was good to have the eleven on the pitch to give them minutes and raise their levels of fitness because of the coming weeks. I was really happy with that.

"Of course the most important thing is to go to the next round. We gave debuts to many players from the academy, which is also a good thing, and also something positive to keep working hard to eventually play more games in the first team. I am really happy.

"Of course it is good to see Ridvan play and he will only get stronger in the coming games.

"Scotty, I know what he can bring. It is not like this is the first game he played.

"That is for all the players who started, it is not only about this game and giving them minutes. I am really aware of all the strengths of my players. It was more about giving them the minutes to play.

"Of course you want to use as many players as you want in the game. You look at the opponent, look at the setup you can have on the pitch.

"That is why you saw the line-up you saw. It was good to give players so many minutes."
