Gio van Bronckhorst talks up Rangers recruitment as he salutes new look side who can 'play many ways'

Confident Gio van Bronckhorst believes he possesses a deeper Rangers squad ready to battle on all fronts ahead of the new season.

The Dutchman added seven new players in John Souttar, Rabbi Matondo, Ridvan Yilmaz, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Malik Tillman and Ben Davies. The departures of Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo in big-money deals to Ajax and Southampton respectively has allowed van Bronckhorst to freshen up his first team.

And the 47-year-old is convinced he now possesses a team of added depth as he aims to battle Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, while also building on their roaring run to the Europa League Final by securing Champions League group stage football for the first time since 2010. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Rangers boss said: "We lost some players, of course, Joe we lost, Calvin (Bassey), we had Aaron (Ramsey) and (Amad) Diallo on loan, we didn't extend (Leon) Balogun

"I think we have good players in, and the qualities they possess we can play many ways, depending on the opponent, how defensively they will play. I think we have enough qualities in this squad to rotate and make sure we have the best line-up against the opponent we are facing.

"It's always strange or different, when you come in mid-season, you know the players but you also don't know them because you have never worked with them, it took a while to know the players. The players I had last season I know very well now. We've had the five-week period where I can also know more about the players who have come in. For me, it's a better start than when I started in November, we've had good weeks of training together and everyone is excited and focused to start the new season"
