Gibraltar border checks scrapped in 'new era' following decades of tension

Border checks were lifted on Wednesday, marking a new era for the tiny British territory's relationship with its Spanish neighbour.

Several hundred people gathered for the occasion, waving Spanish flags, as Gibraltar's Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, declared: "Europe is back."
