The New York Giants quarterback carousel might take one more turn before this tumultuous season ends in two weeks.
On Monday, head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that Drew Lock, who started Sunday’s 34-7 loss to the Falcons in Atlanta, was scheduled to undergo an MRI to check his throwing shoulder which got banged up during the game.
“It’s his right shoulder,” Daboll said. “Again, it could be nothing. They just gave it to me before I came down here. We’ll see where it’s at.”
Lock and Tommy DeVito have been alternating starts for the past five weeks since the release of Daniel Jones, who started the first 10 games. The Giants have lost all five games.
DeVito started the Giants’ Week 12 game against Tampa Bay but could not go the next two weeks against Dallas and New Orleans due to a forearm injury.
Lock started both of those games but could not suit up against Baltimore last week due to elbow and heel issues. DeVito started the game but was knocked out with a concussion at halftime and was relieved by Tim Boyle.
Depending on the results of Lock’s MRI, DeVito could be back in the saddle this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts at home.
Inside linebacker Micah McFadden was knocked out of Sunday’s game and replaced by Ty Summers.
“No update,” Daboll said of McFadden. “He’s getting looked at here a little bit later. But he had a burner. So, we’ll see where that’s at.”
Daboll had two other injuries to report but had little new information to add on either.
“(Tyrone) Tracy re-aggravated his ankle a little bit and so did (center) John Michael (Schmitz Jr.). That’s all I got so far,” he said.
This season can’t end soon enough for a Giants team that had 21 players on their injury report last week and currently has a total of 17 players on injured reserve (IR).
