A German Tartan Army footsoldier known as “Norman the Bruce“ died just weeks after having a liver transplant, it has emerged.
Norman Nawe, who was born with a birth condition which affected his organs, received his second liver transplant in August. However, the 50-year-old, from Kiel in Germany, died on September 24 after his body failed to recover after the op.
Dad-of-two Norman chose to follow Scotland instead of four-time World Cup winners Germany and would take holidays from his job as a sports journalist to join the Tartan Army at games home and away. He had rubbed shoulders with Scotland managers and players, including current boss Steve Clarke.
A fundraiser to honour Norman has been set up by his Scotland football pal Ian Gillan.
Ian said: “Norman was such a generous soul and his approach to life was that a stranger is a friend he hadn’t met yet. Sadly, he leaves behind his partner Melli, son Bosse, 13, and daughter Mia, 10.
"I’ve set up a JustGiving page in his memory for those in the Tartan Army or who knew him in another capacity.”
