A family home became the centre of a fraud dispute after a Georgia woman transferred her property interest to her stepson while reportedly experiencing memory loss. Years later, the courts were asked to determine whether the transfer could stand and whether the jury’s decision should be overturned. On October 19, 2026, the Georgia Court of Appeals upheld the verdict against the stepson, leaving in place the cancellation of the deed and a total award of $57,600 in damages. According to the court’s opinion, published by Justia in James Heard v. Rany L. Logan, the appeal focused on objections concerning the jury’s oath and alleged juror misconduct, rather than a fresh determination of the original property dispute.
