Georgia fans need to send the College Football Playoff committee a really nice fruit basket.
The Bulldogs clocked in at No. 3 in the first College Football Playoff standings, which should bode well for the team’s chances of making it in come January.
Even if Georgia loses to Tennessee Saturday in Athens, the team would still only have perhaps one loss on its resume to the No. 1 team in the standings.
The committee would likely smile upon Georgia more in the end than it would, say, an Alabama, because of where the standings are at present.
Georgia has great odds of winning the CFP at present at +200, tied with No. 2 Ohio State. Tennessee is at +1100, which means betters still feel like, until the Vols take down the reigning champs, the odds are more in Georgia’s favor.
If anything, Georgia coach Kirby Smart won’t be against keeping his odds where they are, even if the CFP committee feels Tennessee has the best résumé right now.
