Gemma Atkinson has admitted that her partner Gorka Marquez would have been 'fuming' if he saw what she had been up to. The Hits Radio host was trying to do a good deed as she kicked off her week on Monday morning (November 7), however, it did go a bit wrong.
She took to her Instagram Story in a bit of stress and shared why in a video posted to her millions of followers. "So I'm in a predicament," Gemma, from Bury, said while outside, surrounded by the autumn leaves, during an early morning walk. "There's an injured pigeon. It can't fly, it's just walking around limp and there's four crows in the tree."
As she worried the other birds kept attacking it, she asked: "What am I supposed to do with it? I have no box or anything." She then laughed as she repeated: "What am I supposed to do with it?"
"Can I put it in the car?" Gemma also asked as she pondered what to do next. She eventually decided to get it into her car and try and get it some help. But her kind efforts were quickly found to have been wasted. With a slightly defeated look on her face, Gemma told the camera: "I started driving it to the local bird sanctuary and it's died in my car."
She then added as she panned the camera around to show her followers: "I've got a dead wood pigeon in my car!" Looking slightly disgusted Gemma said: "Fantastic," before continuing: "You know what, I'm just going to take it back at pop it in the leaves because the silver lining is, it's died warm, in my car, wrapped in a towel and not been eaten to death while it's still alive."
She went on: "But it's pretty rank that I have got a dead wood pigeon in my car," before the mum-of-one added with a laugh: "Happy Monday... Sorry pal. I tried my best." Gemma then videod the moment she took the bird to where she found it. "It's always me who finds injured or dead animals," the former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star said with a groan of slight despair.
Gemma finally returned home and laughed at her morning's escapades. As she shared a follow-up video, she typed alongside the clip: "If Gorka was here he'd be fuming at having to sit with a dead bird in the car," alongside a crying laughing emoji. She then added: "Always have a towel in my car for rescues," alongside a string of crying laughing emojis.
Last month, Gemma slammed claims she and her family are 'cruel' over the breed of one of their dogs. The former soap star has two beloved dogs, Ollie and Norman, who regularly feature on her Instagram page and helped in announcing Gemma's pregnancy back in 2019.
But Gemma instead took to Instagram to share a video of her sister's dog. The cute, tan-coloured pup was clearly enjoying the fuss the Hits Radio host was heaping on to him as she joked: "My sister's dog Rocco is actually a pig," referring to the snorting sounds he was making.
However, Gemma was quick to respond to a message she had privately been sent which asked: "Don't you feel bad for the bulldog breeds with their squashed noses!!" Sharing a screengrab of the message on her Instagram Story, the mum-of-one replied: "Yeh! I always do. Especially in the summer heat."
She went on: "Rocco gets about fine and actually runs around like crazy! [crying laughing emoji]. But I know some bulldogs that can't... It takes a very, very responsible dog owner to have any sort of bull breeds. Their breathing and skin need monitoring more so than other breeds. (Sometimes their skin rolls can chaff).
"Thankfully, my sister is used to it after 14 years with a Sharpei so she's constantly on the ball with Rocco, but I ALWAYS tell ppl to research breeds properly before getting a dog."
Gemma was praised for her response, with one fan branded the first message as 'judgemental'. But the former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star replied with a string of red hearts before typing: "Thank you, I've been told this morning I'm cruel for having a dog in the family that 'clearly can't breathe'.
"They have no idea and probably don't even have a dog themselves anyway! He's a happy healthy boy and the only issue he's recently had is a food allergy. People are absolutely very quick to judge, especially when they can hide behind a screen." But Gemma was then riled by another message who suggested her sister's pet was in 'distress'. "Distress??? Are you ok?" she replied.
