Member states of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility towards the Palestinian people against Israeli violations, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday.
They urged it to exert more efforts to revive the peace process and negotiations between the Palestinian and Israelis, with the aim to establish an independent Palestinian state according to the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital and based on the 2002 Arab peace initiative, two-state solution and relevant international resolutions.
Addressing the Human Rights Council on behalf of the GCC, Saudi representative to the United Nations Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel he said the Gulf countries expressed their gratitude to the ad hoc committee assigned to carry out an investigation into violations in the occupied Palestinian territories.
They welcomed its detailed first report discussed by the HRC, noting its regrettable findings that Israel has no intention to end its occupation, recognize any international legitimacy or mandate or carry out any recommendation.
The GCC stressed that the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip and the several human rights violations undermine any possibility of achieving peace or putting an end to violence in the region.
