• The High Court initially dismissed their challenges in June, a decision which the Court of Appeal upheld, ruling the appeal bids as “unarguable”.
• The expansion, approved by Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander in September, involves moving the emergency runway 12 metres north to accommodate an additional 100,000 flights each year.
• This decision removes a significant obstacle for the controversial development, with the first flights from the expanded runway expected to take off in 2030.
