'Gap in the market' for new Sherwood takeaway taking high street by storm

A chicken shop with a twist has come to Nottingham. With roller skating performances and more expected at their grand opening, the new chicken shop in Sherwood will offer a variety of desserts too.

Chick and Shakes currently has 20 members of staff but bosses are looking to recruit more. Having been open for almost two weeks, it's already proving popular with customers.

With seating on two levels, the new takeaway on the Mansfield Road Sherwood high street closes at midnight every day, making it one of the last restaurants on the high street to close.

Owner Shani Shafiq said: “We have freshly cooked chicken and do desserts. There was a gap in the market for this. Shops in the area have been trying us and the feedback has been tremendous.

"We have family seating upstairs and you’ll be able to book for birthday parties and private events. There’s healthy options on the menu too: we do protein salad boxes and protein shakes.”

A ‘Classic Chick’ which has a chicken fillet inside, mayo and lettuce, is £6.50, with three piece tenders for £4.95 or five pieces for £5.95, while four churros cost £4.95.

The new takeaway is Halal with vegan options too. For the protein shakes, chefs will be shopping locally and using Holland and Barrett for their products.

Shani added: “Around 200 people applied and we’ve recruited 20, we’re looking for quality and experienced staff so if you think you've got what it takes and think you can join the Chick Crew, apply.”

The grand opening for Chick and Shakes will be on April 29. People in the area gave their thoughts about the latest offering on the high street.

Sarah Lee, 45, who works as a cleaner, said: “It’s colourful, it looks fun and we’ve had a dessert place close down on Mansfield Road already. It’s good that this place has healthy and vegan options too, I hope it’ll do well.”

Sales assistant Analissa Anpontay, 35, who has recently moved to Sherwood, said: “I’m glad it’s open till midnight, Sherwood has so many places and they’re definitely not all open so late.

“It’ll definitely be a treat when I go but I think it’ll do well, I see they sell a lot.”
