Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is to close 200 of its in-store cafes which will impact around 2,000 workers. Only 67 cafes will remain open as the company continues its latest restructuring moves.
Other changes that customers could see in store in the months to come are closing less popular hot food counters in 34 stores and changing how it runs bakeries in 54 branches. Sainsbury's said it had spoken to staff and affected staff will be prioritised for vacant internal roles, the Mirror reports.
The cafe closure plan will come into force next month after Sainsbury's chief executive officer Simon Roberts said the company is focused on delivering for customers and at the same time making the business simpler. He said: “As we go through this period of transition, we have taken the difficult decision to close 200 of our cafes next month."
