Rochdale is set to celebrate King Charles III coronation in style with street parties being held across the borough. Patriotic residents have lodged applications for road-closure street parties with knees ups taking place everywhere from Heywood and Middleton to Littleborough and Norden.
King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6 with a service at Westminster Abbey. For most, it will be the first time they have witnessed the coronation of a British monarch - the late Queen Elizabeth II having been crowned nearly 70 years ago.
The council has waived fees for road closures for street parties held on Sunday, May 7 in a bid to encourage people to celebrate the historic occasion. It is also training the event organisers on how to set up and deploy traffic management to close the road correctly and safely, as well as loaning signs free of charge.

Deputy council leader Janet Emsley says the street parties will be a great opportunity people to come together with neighbours, friends, and families.
She said: “The King’s coronation marks a momentous time in our history and to celebrate this special occasion, we have waived the fee to close residential roads and made the process easy to encourage as many residents as possible to join in.”
The deadline to apply for a street party licence in Rochdale has now passed.
