France’s former prime minister, an ally of Emmanuel Macron, criticized the president's attempt to clarify the political situation, stating that it had only led to further confusion. Édouard Philippe highlighted that none of the political blocs in the assembly holds a majority to govern independently. Macron's decision to call a snap election three years earlier than required came after his party suffered a defeat by the far right in the European Parliament election.

While EU election results typically do not influence domestic politics, Macron stated that he could not ignore the message conveyed by voters and aimed to bring clarity to the situation.
