As the 2024 Paris Games are underway, a significant heatwave is set to impact France this week, originating from a hot air mass moving in from Spain. The national meteorological department has issued orange heat warnings for 39 locations, with Wednesday expected to be the peak of the heatwave.
Temperatures across the country are forecasted to soar well above average, with both high and low temperatures reaching unprecedented levels. In Paris and the surrounding region, maximum temperatures are expected to range from 34 to 36°C (93 to 97°F) on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Other Olympic venue cities are also bracing for intense heat. Bordeaux is set to experience temperatures near 40°C (104°F) on Monday, remaining at 38°C (100°F) on Tuesday before gradually decreasing. Lyon will see maximum temperatures nearing 39°C (102°F) on Tuesday and Wednesday, while Marseille is expected to reach 35°C (95°F).
Yesterday, parts of southern France already hit 100 degrees as the heatwave made its way northward. Today, temperatures could spike as high as 104 degrees in areas near the Mediterranean and the southwestern region of the country.
Paris, with a high of 86 degrees today, is anticipated to reach 95 degrees tomorrow, further intensifying the heatwave gripping the nation.
