Four pubs competing to be named 'best in Liverpool'

The ECHO has been asking readers to vote for their favourite Liverpool pubs, and now it’s down to the final four.

The city is home to a variety of different pubs offering an extensive range of drinks in various settings. Some are loved for their history, others for their great value drinks.

There are only four pubs left in the running to become the “best in Liverpool”. See below for the remaining pubs and the all-important Twitter polls where you can vote for the pub you think should be crowned the winner.

The Grapes

The Grapes on Roscoe Street is a traditional and historic pub offering a cosy vibe with its wood-panelled interior. Based in a building dating back to the 1780s, it’s loved by locals for its selection of drinks, including real ales, and its outdoor seating area which is perfect for enjoying a cool pint in the warmer months.

Set over two floors with multiple rooms, there’s plenty of space for people to get together for a good time, with live musicians often performing. One person on TripAdvisor describes The Grapes as a “wonderful hidden gem”. The reviewer then goes on to say: “Being in this pub is always special, it's a pub I always feel totally at home in, staff are cool and the real ale's are always served in excellent condition”.

With 72 ‘excellent’ TripAdvisor reviews, we’re not surprised it made it into the final four. The Grapes can be found 60 Roscoe St, Liverpool L1 9DW.

Ye Hole in Ye Wall

This 18th century tavern is certainly the place to go if you love a characterful pub with lots of history. Listed as being “the oldest pub in Liverpool” having first opened in 1726, Ye Hole In Ye Wall is adorned with photos from throughout the pub’s life.

It’s rumoured to be haunted due to it being built on a Quaker burial site. One customer wrote on TripAdvisor: “Gorgeous pub with a really welcoming atmosphere. The owner Stephen made us feel right at home. Couldn't recommend it enough. A true highlight of my trip to Liverpool.”

Pogue Mahone

Liverpool is home to many Irish pubs, including Pogue Mahone on Seel Street which some ECHO readers have voted as the best pub in the city. The cosy and traditional pub has live music every day and shows a variety of live sports making it the perfect place to kick back and relax.

Pogue Mahone has an extensive choice of drinks, including beers, cocktails, spirits, and, of course, Guinness. One TripAdvisor reviewer called the venue a “great Irish pub serving in my opinion one of the best pints of Guinness in Liverpool”. The pub also has a famous fan, as LFC legend Jamie Carragher replied to our Twitter poll pitting Pogue Mahone and Ship and Mitre against each other saying: "Pogue Mahone’s is the best pub in Liverpool for me!"

Ye Cracke

Famous for its connection to John Lennon, 19th Century pub Ye Cracke is a must-visit for Beatles fans. The multi-roomed pub serves a variety of drinks and has plenty for guests to see, with there being memorabilia and photos on the walls.

One person wrote on TripAdvisor: “One of my favourite pubs to visit whenever I am in and around the Georgian Quarter. A pub that always offers a warm welcome and serves a good pint.”
