Google is set to announce a family of Pixel 9 at its Made by Google event on August 13.
This event was announced in June but we’ve recently heard more specifics about this upcoming generation’s software and hardware.
Rendered images of the Google Pixel 9 were released by OnLeaks, showing off its severe camera housing. This part smoothly meets the sidewall in the Pixel 8 generation, but juts out far more aggressively in this new design.
According to recent leaks on TikTok, there will also be a bold pink version of the Pixel 9. But will it be available across all four models?
We expect Google to announce the Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold this year. Budget buyers keen to see the Pixel 9a will typically have to wait longer. The Pixel 8a was announced only on May 7 and costs £499.
An August announcement will also mark a relatively short window since the Pixel 8 family arrived in October 2023.
They are set to use the Tensor G4 processor, which will reportedly improve power consumption and heat but won’t be a mega performance upgrade over the current Tensor G3.
According to Android Authority, the Pixel 9 family will debut a fresh suite of artificial intelligence features, dubbed Google AI.
This will include three notable new features. The most interesting is a take on Microsoft’s Recall, but instead of looking through all your previous web activity, it only sifts through your screenshots.
It will be useful only if you habitually take screenshots, then. It has a less dystopian feel than the Microsoft take, called Recall, which can look through all your activity.
Add Me is another upcoming AI feature, which is about photography. This reportedly makes “sure everyone’s included in a group photo”.
And while this one hasn’t been explained yet, it sounds like you’ll be able to add people to photos, when they weren’t there in the first place. Classic AI shenanigans: a bit creepy.
Finally, Studio is an image, and potentially video, generation tool. “You imagine it. Pixel creates it” is the tagline for this one.
We should hear more before the launch at 6pm on August 13.
