Four children drown in pit filled with rain water in UP's Hardoi

LUCKNOW: Four children aged 9 to 12 drowned in a pit on a field filled with rain water in Hardoi district on Thursday.

The incident was reported from Kurari village under Pachdevra police station area.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered condolences to the kin of the deceased and directed officials to reach the spot and provide financial assistance at the earliest.

Superintendent of Police, Hardoi, Rajesh Dwivedi, said that four children identified as Ajmat (11) Saddam (12), Khushnuma (12) and Mustakim (09) of the same village were playing in the field when suddenly one of them slipped in the pit.

"The other three who went to rescue also got stuck in the pit and cried for help. Before the villagers could arrive all four drowned in the pit," said Dwivedi based on the statements of the villagers.

Police said that bodies of all the four were fished out and probe is underway. Senior district administrative officials also reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
