Forty-seven children who played on inflatable bouncy castles at a neighborhood party outside Dublin, Ireland, developed skin infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), according to an outbreak report in Eurosurveillance. One more child, who did not attend but had close, sustained contact with a sick guest, was also infected, bringing the total to 48 cases.
All of the children sought medical care, and four were hospitalized. The report's authors say they found no earlier documented outbreak linked to bouncy castles.
