Fortnite's latest batch of weekly missions came with a hotfix, adding the long-rumoured Lock On Pistol to the game alongside an in-game challenge to get you to grips with the latest weapon.
Fortnite cycles weapons in and out of the game constantly, just last week we got the ODM Gear and Thunder Spears as a part of the Attack on Titan crossover included in Fortnite Update 24.20. Now, just a week later, Fortnite is (unofficially) taking a page out of Titanfall 's book by adding the long-rumoured Lock On Pistol to the game with today's hotfix, alongside a brand new weekly quest which is set to get players a little more accustomed to the latest weapon.
The Lock On Pistol does what it says on the tin, it's a pistol with a lock-on function. This may sound horrifically overpowered but worry not, it has a set of downsides to prevent just that. To use the Lock On Pistol, you simply need to aim at your enemy, you'll notice four pink markers slowly begin to fill up around them, and once those are full you fire, unleashing a barrage of bullets their way. The damage output from the pistol isn't amazing, but it'll do the job in those tense gunfights where you and your opponent just absolutely suck at aiming for whatever reason (don't worry, we've all been there).
Where to find the Lock On Pistol in Fortnite
The good news is, the Lock On Pistol is a part of the regular item pool in Fortnite; the bad news is the Lock On Pistol is a part of the regular item pool in Fortnite, and thus, there are no guaranteed locations to find it. The Lock On Pistol can be found on the ground across the map, in chests, and from looting other players; presumably, it can be included in the Weapon-o-matic vending machines, but we've been unable to confirm this so far.
We recommend landing in areas with a surplus of chests, with the number one area being Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2's newest flagship area Mega City. The big city spawns with over 100 chests to search in a given match, so trial and error alone will be enough to help you find the brand-new item, plus Mega City is one of the best areas for completing the Lock On Pistol quest (more on that later).
Other good areas to try are Anvil Square, Slappy Shores, and Steamy Springs, as these areas also have a high volume of chests spawned in each match.
How to complete the Lock On Pistol quest in Fortnite
The Lock On Pistol quest included in this week's Weekly Quests is to deal 200 damage to opponents with the Lock On Pistol. The quest sounds simple enough, but due to the long time it takes to lock on, it may give you some trouble if you run into a particularly skilled opponent. Now don't worry if you meet your demise, you don't need to deal all 200 damage in a single match, it accumulates over time. Thankfully there's an easy way around this that should guarantee it in a single game.
Quests in Fortnite that involve dealing damage to opponents have an easy workaround, and that is that enemy NPCs will count towards the goal. Currently, the only enemy NPCs in the game are the Highcard trios, you can find them in Mega City, Shattered Slabs, and Brutal Bastion, spawning after the second in-game storm phase. Simply go after them with your Lock On Pistol and you should be able to complete the quest with next to no issue.
If you've followed our steps, that's you sorted, the weekly quest is complete and you can get rid of the Lock On Pistol and pick up a better weapon.
