For 13 seasons in the NFL, Andre Carter was a force off the edge. One of those seasons he spent with the Raiders. Now he is expected to rejoin the Silver & Black as pass rush specialist according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
The Cal alum was the seventh overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft by the 49ers. After five seasons in San Francisco, he spent the next five seasons in Washington before finishing out his career with two stints in New England with one season in Oakland in between.
Since he retired from football following the 2013 season, Carter spent a couple seasons as assistant defensive line coach in Miami and a couple seasons as the DL coach with the Jets. Then he went back to the college ranks in 2021 to coach the defensive line for LSU.
The Raiders already have their defensive line coach in Rob Leonard, who is currently in Mobile Alabama coaching linebackers at the Senior Bowl.
Last season it was Matt Edwards who held the title of pass rush specialist for the Raiders, so we will see if he returns to the team and, if so, what his role will be.
